Bar codes and Stockroom Inventory control are a perfect match. Data entry errors are a thing of the past when you place bar code labels on the actual product or on the storage bin or on the storage shelf. Small items like pencils and pens are handled by having a picture of the item in a looseleaf binder with a bar code printed next to the picture. High quality bar code labels can be produced on any laser printer. For low volume single run labels, dedicated bar code printers such as the Dymo Labelmaker series are ideal. For high volume on demand production labels, a dedicated thermal imaging bar code printer is best. When you purchase your bar code reader from CMS, either with the software or later as an add-on, it comes to you pre-tested and pre-programmed with custom CMS software that interfaces perfectly with the CMS software. Bar code readers selected by CMS are easy to use, feature one hand operation, and can run on internal rechargeable batteries or standard AA alkaline batteries. The PT630 model shown in the middle picture above operates from a Lithium-Ion battery that is capable of 12 hours of continuous operation between charges. It can also use standard AA alkaline batteries as a backup. Data is read into the CMS program using a standard USB or Serial cable. Use of a bar code scanner means that Receipts, Issues, Adjustments, and Inventory Counts can all be done quickly and accurately using an inexpensive bar code device. CMS software works with a variety of types of bar code readers including pencil wands, hand held CCD, cradle mounted, and all-in-one types. Memory capacities range from a low of 512K to a high of 4.5 Meg. A 512K model or 2.5 Meg model will be more than adequate for most small to medium stockrooms with less than 1000 transactions per day.
