IMPORT DOS DATA
Two conditions must exist for the successful importing of DOS data into the Windows version. First the DOS directory must contain all of the data files (*.DBF, *.DBT, *.MEM) and the executable file STINV.EXE. (For Supply Manager, the executable file is SUPPLY.EXE.) The Windows DOS data import routine does NOT verify that STINV.EXE (or SUPPLY.EXE) is a valid file, but simply verifies that it exists. If you have your DOS data but not the DOS program, then just copy some file into the data directory and rename it to STINV.EXE. Be sure to delete the fake STINV.EXE when the data import is finished.
Secondly, when entering the path for the DOS files in the import form, there must be a closing backslash. For example, "C:\INV\” will work, but "C:\INV" will fail.
There are two things you need to know BEFORE starting the import step.
The import involves two steps.
1. In the Windows Stockroom Program, select MAINTENANCE on the main menu. Under Maintenance, select FISCAL YEAR. Check to see that the fiscal year setting is correct BEFORE importing any DOS data. If you are not sure of the fiscal year for your organization, ask the finance department before proceeding.
2. In the Windows Stockroom Program, select MAINTENANCE on the main menu. Under Maintenance, select IMPORT DOS DATA. This will bring up a screen where you tell the Windows program which DOS version you are importing from. Next you will need to indicate the path to the DOS data. This entry must include a trailing backslash ("\"). You can use the "BROWSE" button on the DOS Data Path screen to locate the correct path.
It is important to be absolutely sure that you are importing current DOS data and not an old backup. Some users of the DOS program copy the data files to a backup directory once a month, once a quarter, or once a year. If you point the data import routine at one of those old copies, you will import invalid historical data rather than valid current data.
