Printer Not Working Printer Prints "garbage"
If a printer does not work:
♦ Be sure the printer On-Line light is lit If not, be sure the printer is plugged in correctly. The printer will not print until the On-Line light is lit.
♦ Be sure the selected printer port is correct
If the printer is plugged into the computer, it is most likely to be LPT1:.
♦ If the printer is connected to a serial port, the printer is most likely to be COM1: or COM2:. The COM port speed must be set to MODE=9600,n,8,1,p
♦ Be sure the cable is firmly attached on both ends. A loose cable can interfere with printing
♦ If this is a new installation or new printer: See your dealer or installer with regard to IRQ settings. An IRQ conflict can cause a printer not to work.
♦ Check the RRSETUP settings to be sure the proper printer is selected and that the settings are correct.
♦ Program Interaction:
Word Perfect for DOS and some other programs are not well behaved with regard to printer modes. WP may leave the printer in any of several weird modes when it exits. A printer power OFF/ON cycle will put the printer back in the factory default mode. Contact WP tech support or computer expert to configure WP (or other application) so it issues a printer reset upon exit.
